"Medical Institute For Tamils" (MIFT) is an officially registered non-profit cooperation representing Tamil speaking medical and dental professionals in North America.

   How to Become an Active Member   

Please read through the following steps to become an active member of Medical Institute For Tamils (MIFT).

Step 1: Find Your Eligibility and Rights

The Full Membership is open to any Tamil Medical & Dental Practitioner who is licensed to practice in North America. Full members have the right to attend, speak and vote in general meetings.

The Student Membership is open to any Tamil medical/dental students. Student members have the right to attend and speak in General meetings but do not have the right to vote.

The Associate Membership is open to any Tamil working in the health field who supports the Institute but does not fulfil the criteria for full membership. These members have the right to attend and speak in general meetings but do not have the right to vote.

The Honorary Membership is open to any person who has given distinguished services to advance the objectives of the Institute may be elected as an Honorary member of the Institute for life. This person will be elected at an Annual General Meeting on the recommendation of the Management Committee and will require a two-thirds majority of the members present. Such a member may attend and speak in general meetings but do not have the right to vote.

Step 2: Understand the MIFT Constitution

Read the MIFT constitution to understand what MIFT is all about. The constitution contains the information of objective, membership, structure, etc.

Step 3: Find-out how much it will cost you

please refer to the application form for current fee.

Step 4: Optain an Application Form

Click here to obtain an application form as an MS-Word document. If you cannot get it here, please contact the management committee for a form sent to you.

Step 5: Fill the Application Form and Mail it

Fill the application form, attach the payment to it and mail it to the following address:

The payment should be made payable to "Medical Institute For Tamils".

At any point, if you have any questions/concerns/comments, please contact a MIFT representative.

The Management Committee reserves the right:

  • To approve or reject applications for membership.
  • To terminate any membership on good and valid grounds.

    Any application for membership that was refused by the Management Committee or any termination of membership shall have the right to appeal at the Annual General Meeting.

    Upon the acceptance to membership the member will be bound to pay such annual subscription as may be determined at the AGM from time to time.
